Wakefield & Pontefract Beekeepers Association

About Wakefield Beekeepers Association

Wakefield Beekeepers Association (WPBKA) brings together people with a shared passion for bees, beekeeping, and the natural world. Founded to support both new and experienced beekeepers, our association promotes responsible beekeeping, education, and the protection of pollinators across West Yorkshire.

Our Purpose

We exist to encourage the craft of beekeeping and to ensure that honey bees remain a thriving part of our environment. Through training, mentoring, and community outreach, we help members develop practical skills and confidence while deepening their understanding of bee health and behaviour.

Our Community

Our members come from all walks of life, from beginners taking their first steps into beekeeping to experienced apiarists with decades of knowledge. We meet regularly for talks, demonstrations, and social events, creating a supportive network that shares advice, experience, and enthusiasm.

What We Offer

  • Education and Mentoring: Guidance for new beekeepers and continuing development for established ones.
  • Association Apiary: A shared space for hands-on learning and collaborative hive management.
  • Events and Training: Regular meetings, workshops, and guest speaker evenings.
  • Pollinator Awareness: Campaigns to protect local forage, habitats, and honey bee health.

Affiliation and Governance

WPBKA is affiliated with the Yorkshire Beekeepers Association (YBKA) and the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA). Together, we uphold national standards for bee welfare and beekeeper training.
